Altenew Perfect Summer Washi Release

Happy Tuesday! Welcome back to my blog and welcome to another Altenew product release! Today, we have a wide range of wonderful WASHI TAPE! WOW Washi in Every Width

If you’re not familiar with Altenew’s line of washi tapes, then get ready to be wowed! I love that they think beyond the the traditional uses and come up with some amazing designs and sizes. Have you ever seen washi wider than 10 INCHES? Nope, that’s not a typo – we have a washi that is ELEVEN INCHES wide! Woo Hoo! Let’s take a look at all the goodness!

Get ready for a loooong post – I have lots of projects to share! It all culminates in a video showing 5 different ways to use washi – all illustrated below.

Cover colored cardstock

The first way to use washi is to cover colored cardstock with a mostly white or light colored tape. The colored cardstock will show through the tape and add a unique spin to the pattern on the washi.

Overlap for different shades and hues

For the next two projects, I overlapped the washi tape to create different shades and hues. If you overlap the same color or color family, you’ll get additional gradients. If you overlap different colors, you can create new colors.

Create a larger pattern

When you have super thin washi, like these new pallete tapes, you can match up row after row to create unique pattern that covers all or part of the background. I just love that block of gold in the pattern! Paired with the pinks and greens, it makes for such an elegant combo.

Mix, Match & Diecut

Of course, you can mix & match your washi for some stunning results. How about gold on gold on gold? Or, you can diecut! Either diecut the shape/sentiment of your choice (I did that in the purple “for you” card above), or use the coordinating dies, like the Wild Flora dies with the new Wild Flora MEGA washi tape!

Mega Bonus!

And, for one final card, I created a 5×7 design using the rest of the Wild Flora washi after I diecut the other two pieces. I added some gold embossing over the top by brushing on water then sprinkling on embossing powder. It only stuck where the water remained, leaving a cool water droplet pattern.

Watch the magic happen

Ok – after seeing all the projects, let’s dive into the techniques! I know you’ve been here a while, so if you want to save this to watch later, just click on the video and click the “save for later” clock icon in the upper right!
