watercolor on kraft – it’s possible!
Watercoloring is a big mystery for a lot of people. It is something that can be intimidating, which keeps people from even trying. Here’s the thing. Like all art, watercolor is unique to you and can be whatever you want it to be. It doesn’t need to be realistic. It doesn’t even need to be perfectly blended and inside the lines. It doesn’t need to be no-line… it doesn’t NEED to be anything but what you want it to be.
With that said, sometimes people want to watercolor on colored paper – like kraft. If you want to do that, you’re best served with gouache (goo-aash). This is an opaque watercolor that creates stunning looks on colored paper – especially black, kraft and any other dark color.

I have to admit, I had some trouble coming up with a good color scheme for the snail. In the end, I went with something fun instead of realistic. It goes along with the idea of “do what you want”. It doesn’t NEED to be any certain way, but the way I decide it should be!
