steps to creating high contrast gel prints with stencils

  1. Apply thin layer of paint across entire gel press. Depending on the stencil, this may end up being the “fill”color, like the color around a flower.
  2. While the layer is still wet, add the stencil, and use a piece of paper to remove the paint that is still exposed. Remove as much as possible.
  3. After any remaining exposed paint is dry, apply contrasting color(s) onto the press with the stencil still applied (keeping the first color protected).
  4. Remove stencil and allow entire press to dry.
  5. Apply thin layer of a light color across entire press.
  6. While still wet, apply paper, rub, and pull up image.
