Today’s technique is going to blow your mind!
I have been a fan of the rotating stamp style, like Concord & 9th’s Turnabout ™ stamps, for a while now. It’s just so cool how you can turn the paper 90-degrees, stamp the same image, and end up with a filled-in design that looks like wallpaper or wrapping paper! The only problem is that I wanted to take regular stamp sets and make this same kind of pattern. But how?! I had to figure it out!

Class #8: Beyond Basic Backgrounds
The Altenew Academy Beyond Basic Backgrounds class was just the excuse for me to explore exactly how I could make my own rotating stamps using any stamp set. This class focuses on ways to make a background the star of the show. Lydia leads class members through six lessons – each highlighting a fun technique to bring the background to the forefront of the design. As you can see in my project today, these backgrounds don’t take a back-seat to anything!
My Project
I started my quest for the perfect method to create a rotating design. And, after some testing, and trying it out on some other projects (did you notice it here?) I’ve got the steps down pat!

The Technique & Design
For this specific card, I stamped the rotating background in Versamark on watercolor card and embossed it in Pure White embossing powder. The embossing lines were the perfect barrier to keep the watercolored background from getting onto the images. Once I had the mottled background complete, I colored in all the yummy treats. All of the watercoloring was done using my newly acquired Altenew Watercolor Pan Set.
Once dry, the finished watercolor panel was cut down to A2 size and adhered to the card base with some Scrapbook.com wide double sided adhesive. I love using the 4″ wide adhesive to make sure that my watercolor panels lay flat on the card base. No wonky fronts here! The sentiment is just the slimmest of strips, popped up with a strip of foam adhesive.
