It’s time for another Sketch Starter! Are you ready?

As you might know, as a Design Team Member for Altenew, I create monthly inspiration projects that feature two distinctly different projects using the same sketch. I encourage you to give the sketch a try and share your results on social media (tag me @nicolewattcreates), or if you’re a class member here on NWC, upload a project to the comments below!

sketch #09

Do you have oodles of cardstock strips hanging around? How about thin washi tape (like 1/2″ or 1/4″)? Great! Go collect them up and create some fun and easy cards with me today! We’ll be scrap-busting and washi-busting. These are so fun, I bet you’ll make a ton for your card stash!

Feel free to pin this image on Pinterest for future reference!

zig and zag and zig again

This sketch was MADE for scraps! You could use different colored paper strips, or washi tape, like I did. Or, you could take an image and cut it up into strips for an interesting artsy look. How will you interpret this sketch?

shades of red

For this first take I stripped up the Red Cosmos gradient cardstock and adhered it directly to the card base in a zig zag pattern. I wanted to really set off the vertical strips, so I grouped up a few of the sentiments from Sentiments Strips 2 to make a fun note to a friend! To add a little more visual interest, I popped in some Red Cosmos Enamel Dots. Cute, right?

washi all the way

For the second take, I went for strips of the Allium Palette washi tape. This is a great way to use up washi tape if you are a collector (like me) that is looking for a good way to use lots of tape in a project. I made sure to vary the length of the strips, and also the placement of the colored blocks to leave a real random look. This time, there were so many lines going on, both vertical and horizontal, that I oped for a single sentiment with a few small enamel dots.
