It’s time for another Sketch Starter! Are you ready?
As you might know, as a Design Team Member for Altenew, I create monthly inspiration projects that feature two distinctly different projects using the same sketch. I encourage you to give the sketch a try and share your results on social media (tag me @nicolewattcreates), or if you’re a class member here on NWC, upload a project to the comments below!

why did I buy this washi?
OMG! Did you ever have one of those minutes when you pick up a craft item – paper, stamp, washi… that you look at and think, why did I buy this? I have NO idea how I’m going to use it?! That’s what I thought when I picked up the Concrete Wall washi from Altenew. I knew I was drawn to it because of the gold triangles, but that realistic concrete background isn’t something I would normally go for.
Well, I thought this sketch might be just the thing to give the pattern a try so I could see some possibilities.
Of course, the washi makes the perfect background look. I thought I’d pair it with a floral, and the style of Retro Plantines seemed to be a simple, but styled look that would go well with the washi. Besides, I couldn’t resist the “rock” pun with the sentiment paired with the concrete background! LOL!

a flip-flop looks fine!
For the second take, I thought I would flip the sketch on its side, and flop (?) the panels so the washi was the furthest black with a bold, black center panel. In this configuration, the washi tape plays more of a supporting role, helping to bring some subtle geometric interest to the floral spray.

I like what you did for this sketch……the colors and that you even flipped it.
thanks for sharing.
Simple, elegant and clean looking – like the first one the best!
Great way to use the Concrete Washi tape! Your designs are pretty. I tend to go for florals but for your cards have a nice modern feel to them.
Can’t wait to see the projects shared and the ideas for the month. I like the idea to use the tape to fill the panels.
