If your summer is heating up like ours is here in the middle of the US, then there’s always time to spend a few hours cooling off inside and catching up on some cardmaking or other crafts! And, standalone dies are a great way to spice things up and clean out your scraps and background stash!
cool moroccan vibes
As I alluded, I did a little scrap-busting for this release, pulling out some really cool background pieces from my stash to pair with these new dies. That means that I didn’t actually do any stamping or inking – just lots of diecutting!
This first project pairs an alcohol ink background on Yupo paper with the Moroccan Tile cover die in white. It really gives off the oceanfront vibe with an opulent, refined feel. It’s paired with the Hello die from Hello & Hugs which I made pop with a simple strip of black cardstock. It doesn’t have to cover the whole sentiment, just enough to let the words come to the front.

words + letters
For my second look I enhanced a background that I had started with some stencils and ink sprays on photo paper. I added in some additional colors, Distress Oxides and Distress Glaze embossing to create a gorgeous, tactile experience. You’ll really catch all of the texture in the second picture below. It really looks like a piece of oxidized and rusted metal.
It was the perfect organic background to complement the Peeking Leaves cover die. And, keeping with the “hello” theme, the sentiment is from the new All About You word die set. These are diecut words with coordinating shadow layers. That little bit of vellum mutes the background just enough to pop the sentiment.

Last, but not least, I took another piece of Yupo with alcohol ink from my stash and diecut it with the new Rippling Rings border die and adhered it on a piece of rust orange cardstock. I loosely cut it out and then distressed the edges for a casual, earthy look.
The background is also from my stash – a piece of extra rough watercolor cardstock with a gold watercolor wash. The sentiment is another from the All About You word die set. I had some extra circles from the diecut, so I added them behind to add more dimension.
