We’re reaching the end of the month, which means it’s time for a new Paint-a-Flower design from Altenew! I hope you are faring well through this troubled time, and that you are using some crafty time for calmness and therapy! You should be arriving from Svitlana Shayevich’s blog. introducing iris
This month’s Build-a-Flower has a double bloom and single bloom as well as some exceptional sentiments. If you’re up for a challenge, this PAF is for you! Altenew is also introducing their own line of watercolor papers. The 4.25 x 5.5 package is 50% cotton and the 9 x 11 paper pad is 100% cotton. Both are very smooth and bright and both are 140lb/300gsm weight. There is also a new watercolor pan set – the Essentials 12 circle pan. It is a curated collection of 12 essential shades from the 36 Pan Set.

a labor of love
Now, I never want to discourage you from ANY kind of crafty exploration. Really – just do, and try, and practice. But, let me tell you, this took a LONG time! There are so many nooks and crannies and twisty petals in this Iris stamp set that I spent quite a bit of time referring back to the stamp sheet and the packaging art to understand how it all worked! What was flipped over what? Where should shadows go? It was all a bit dizzying. Though, the results are stunning! I think this is one card that is going on my display shelf for now as a reminder to myself to “follow your dreams”!

transparent watercolor (ish)
For this project, I worked on my transparent watercoloring skills. Though I don’t think this is exactly what it’s supposed to look like in the end, I did use this approach to my painting. This is a tough one to master, so take your time! I forgot to post it in the video, but the speedcolor portion (the last 5 minutes) took about 35 minutes total. Yes – for just that one flower! Yikes!!
Thank You!
Time is precious and I’m truly grateful that you chose to spend a few minutes of your day here!
I would love to connect with you on Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest where we have the opportunity to share and interact even more!
