gel plate monoprinting

There are sooooo many cool things you can do with these mixed media pigment inks. Last month, I explored stamping on t-shirts and cork trivets. Today, I’m sharing some monoprint images I created using the inks with a gel plate.

Using a gel plate enabled me to create some beautiful texture, better than I could achieve by taking the ink pad direct to paper. The smooth surface of the gel plate just grabs the ink and holds on!

I could also create some unique looks by moving the ink pad on the gel plate in a shape or pattern, such as the squiggles in this sample.

You can also add additional texture by using stencils or stamps to make imprints in the ink. For this last look, I brayered on the ink, then stamped with the Wood Palette background stamp for added texture.
