Altenew Build-A-Flower: Coneflower

It’s been a while since I picked up a Build-a-Flower set, but this month’s was speaking to me, so here I am! Coneflowers are just gorgeous, and I thought the artwork really reflected some beautiful options. You should be arriving from Jenny Colacicco’s blog. If not, you can track back to the Altenew Card Blog to start at the beginning, or continue around until you loop back here.

hello, coneflower!

This month’s new addition to the Build-a-Flower family is the Coneflower. Out of all of the Daisy family, the Coneflower is my favorite! I love how the center pops out from the center, with the petals drooping downward. It reminds me of a skirt around a ballgown….

bright & simple

I wanted to create something bright and simple to showcase the shape of the coneflower. Instead of adding in the extra stamped layers, I stuck to just the outline stamp. That’s what usually helps me decide if I will get a layering flower set or not – is there an outline stamp? I think that makes the layering sets so much more versatile, because you can use the layers as intended, or stick to just the outline for any number of different looks!

My background panel is created with some super saturated watercolor brush markers in Crimson and Purple Wine. I love the way these two colors look together! After I heat embossed the coneflower in white, I came back with a brush and water to move the color around a bit to create more concentrated light and dark areas. I just love the finished look!

  2. Beautiful! Your background is amazing. Altenew watercolor markers are one of my favorite water coloring mediums and I have both the colors you used — I’ll definitely be trying this soon. Love those coneflowers.
