I have two rules for handmade gift tags…
Seriously, I have rules. The first rule is that the design has to be E-A-S-Y. These things get THROWN OUT! People do NOT know how much time you put into making something as small as a gift tag, so, please don’t work so hard! I’ve done Christmas Gift Tag classes before with super-thought-out designs and the participants REFUSED to actually use the tags. Instead, they use them to decorate their TREES! What the what? Yah. My Project
Ok, so I said I had two rules. My second rule is: no FLIMSY tags! Whatever cardstock I use, and it’s usually a one layer thing, it needs to be thick. So, 110 lb Solar White, or 140 lb watercolor or something along those lines. You’ll never get a flimsy tag from me that just rips off a package.
I really like that these tags don’t need much more than a sentiment. They could even go naked with just the snowflake stenciling. Make them as easy as you want! The gold shimmer makes them elegant and wow enough for any package.

The Technique & Design
The video is long, but the technique is quick. Shimmer spray is the key. I used Altenew Antique Gold, but any color will work amazingly – that shimmer is what really elevates the look! I added a tiny bit of Salty Ocean Distress Oxide to the stencil in places to make a green color when mixed with the shimmer spray. It looks like oxidized copper.
Then, I stamped sentiments in Antique Gold pigment ink and embossed in gold. On some, I added strips of cardstock just to add some extra color. But, as you’ll see they look great without the extra cardstock, and even without a sentiment!

OMG I love these too! So much fun! I need that stamp set, just because! I think my favorite one was the full snowflake tag with the gold sentiment but I am enjoying all of the others too esp the one with the angle. Who knew, the envelope punch board would look good as a tag topper? I can see me making a bunch of these but putting them on a card. It will be fun to play with the stencil and sprays etc.
The last two weeks I made 350 tags for the Blueberry Blitz fundraiser for a camp in our area. They sell boxes of fresh picked blueberries. I was using older papers and cardstock. I ended up thinking the paper was too thin and the cardstock was too plain so I ended up backing the paper with the cardstock. I made a little blueberry looking part that said “Thanks” “You’re the Sweetest” to put on the boxes. I need to check to see how many more I need to make for the second delivery of blueberries in 2 weeks.

Cute tags. I’m sort of new to papercrafts sho I want to order everything you use. Unfortunately I can’t do that. So I will have to slowly build up my supplies. Love those blue ones.
